A spacious, well-equipped comfortable cottage in a wonderful rural setting at Greenrigg Farm. The modernised stone property adjoining the farmhouse retains its welcoming, original character, including a farmhouse kitchen with Aga.
Situated within 275 acres of working farm, Foxgloves offers the opportunity to enjoy a self-catering holiday, during which visitors can explore not only the Lake District, but also the Solway, Northumberland and Southern Scotland. Foxgloves enjoys a peaceful idyllic setting and if you need to get away from it all, then the house offers the perfect retreat. Guests can enjoy the open fire or soak up the sun in the large garden supplied with plentiful garden furniture taking in the tremendous views. The warm welcome and relaxed atmosphere will ensure you feel at home from the moment you arrive. Our varied family animals are equally pleased to see visitors and have been known to share the holidays with visitors of similar types.
In the latter part of the year 2001, some of the farm buildings proved to have some unique features, according to the Historical Buildings Society, including a double threshing mill and a very well preserved barrel-vaulted cellar in the original farmhouse. Our farmland provides a habitat for many interesting and rare breeds including skylarks, woodpeckers, owls, red squirrels, hares, badgers, foxes and buzzards. The nearby Solway coastline is widely regarded as one of the country's richest areas for marine bird wildlife. Ramblers will be delighted with the rolling hills as well as discovering the many footpaths that can be found nearby, and with the Lakeland fells on the doorstep the variety of walking that can be enjoyed is staggering. Slightly further afield is excellent cycling country with many quiet roads and cycle paths.
Those wishing to venture further afield will find that Foxgloves is conveniently located as a touring base, with the bustling town of Keswick 25 minutes away and the southern Lakes a 90 minute drive. Nearby historic Carlisle offers a fascinating day out for all.
Riding, fishing, golf, and swimming all available nearby. Electric cooker and main cooker is an Aga.
