High Fold Guest House, surrounded by breathtaking Lake District scenery, green rolling hills, valleys and mountain peaks must have one of the best breakfast views in the Lake District. Our 3 beautifully presented, comfortable bedrooms have amazing views, are en-suite and have king size or super-king size beds. Each room has a fridge, complimentary, locally produced toiletries, hairdryer, hospitality tray and TV with Sky TV. Our delicious, generously portioned breakfast is made from high quality, locally sourced and produced ingredients wherever possible. Whether you come to High Fold for some energetic walking or cycling or simply for a peaceful, relaxing break, you may be assured of a warm, friendly welcome throughout your stay.
There is ample free parking at High Fold and for those who don’t want to use their car when they get here, many of the walking or cycling tracks start right on our doorstep. The Old Post Office, a coffee shop, serving delicious home cooked food and wonderful coffee is only a few metres from the house and is open from Wednesday through to Sunday.
Windermere and Ambleside are each only 3.5 miles away so if you are looking for local shops and places to eat in addition to the two excellent local pubs within walking distance of the guest house, you don’t have far to go. Local taxi firms are readily available for those who don’t want to drive.
I moved here in August 2019 and absolutely love it. The area is breathtakingly beautiful; the residents friendly, helpful and welcoming. The peaceful surroundings enable you to switch off and relax pretty much on arrival. The atmosphere in the guest house is easy going and homely. I am not a hardened hiker but regularly enjoy walking along the local paths and bridleways which are for all abilities and energy levels. For many of these walks or cycle rides, no car is required, they are right on the doorstep. The previous owners very kindly wrote down detailed guides for several local walks which you can borrow and there are plenty of maps and guidebooks for you to peruse. There are also many leaflets giving details of local attractions and places to visit. I look forward to welcoming you soon to what is a truly special place.
Applethwaite on the first floor, is our largest bedroom and is designed for those guests who wish to have a little extra space and comfort. The room has a super king size bed and lounge area with sofa, coffee table, silent fridge and TV. The room also has its own full bathroom with an over bath shower.
Applethwaite is a dual aspect room with wonderful views. The west facing window overlooks the old stone sheep fold after which High Fold takes its name and the pretty High Fold Farm cottage and converted barn. The east facing window has glorious views overlooking the Troutbeck valley, Jesus church and the fells of Applethwaite common. The Garburn Pass to Kentmere can be seen clearly from the east facing window.
Kentmere, our cosy four poster room on the first floor is dual aspect with stunning views of the Troutbeck Valley and Applethwaite to the East and the fells and Troutbeck Tongue to the north. Kentmere has a kingsize four poster bed, an ensuite shower room, tea and coffee making facilities, a silent fridge and TV.
Kirkstone, on the second floor, looks north towards the famous Kirkstone pass and east towards Applethwaite. The sloping ceiling gives the room a cozy, cottage feel while the Velux window makes the room exceptionally light and airy. The sitting area enables guests to take time out to enjoy a cup of tea, coffee or perhaps something a little stronger when they return from their various outings. The bed is super king sized and the room has an en-suite shower, tea and coffee making facilities, a silent fridge and TV.
