Summer is the time to head to a local market: there are several taking place across the county, with at least one to be found every week! There are the popular Sedbergh Artisan Markets, which take place during the warmer months; as well as farmer’s markets in towns like Orton, Brampton, Penrith and Kendal.

Food and drink lovers will enjoy a trip to Maryport Taste of the Sea festival (12 - 13 August): a food festival with local producers, tastings, live music and more.

Visit an animal attraction


From horse riding on the beach to getting close to some of the world’s most amazing creatures, there’s lots for animal lovers to enjoy in the Lake District, Cumbria. The Hadrian’s Wall Path National Trail stretches for 84 miles along the iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site, taking in the city of Carlisle as well as Roman forts and museums. Meanwhile, Cumbria’s section of the King Charles III England Coast Path is simply stunning, with sweeping ocean views as well as towns and villages like Whitehaven, St Bees and Barrow.
