John Ruskin, Coniston: Luxury Private Guided Day Tour
John Ruskin and Brantwood House. After breakfast we will make our way over to Coniston Lake and if the weather is good take the steamer over to Brantwood house ( if not we will drive).
Ruskin’s former home Brantwood incorporates a historic house, gardens, museum and a vibrant centre for the arts. The views of Coniston Lake from the house are stunning.
Lunch will be at the excellent restaurant at Brantwood. Ruskin was born in 1819 and became one of the greatest thinkers of the Victorian era. He was a man of genius and vision, a painter and poet in his own right as well as one of the most influential social and environmental theorists.
When we return to Coniston village we will visit The Ruskin Museum which was opened in 1901 by his faithful secretary WG Collingwood. It is a memorial to Ruskin’s life, thoughts, art and love of nature.
