Where the Lake District meets the Yorkshire Dales is an area of extreme natural beauty just waiting to be discovered.
The beauty of the landscapes inspires in numerous ways, from painters and crafters to producers of artisan food. You’ll find delicious local cheeses from the mild and creamy to the mature which invokes the pallet. You’ll need bread for your cheese, and the choice of locally baked loaves is endless. Then there are the chutneys, jams and preserves! The best way to taste a selection of the best the area has to offer is a visit to the Sedbergh Artisan Markets. They offer an incredible range of locally produced food, all offered for sale by the artisans themselves. They are held one Saturday a month during the summer. Make sure you take a big bag with you!
The area’s traditional agricultural shows are not only a great day out but a way to sample unique local products and find some souvenirs to take home with you.
We’ve not yet mentioned beer! The Kirkby Lonsdale beer festival in May is a great way to sample ales from Cumbria’s breweries and micro-breweries – of which there are many! You’ll never be short of choice when it comes to having a pint.
There are plenty of places to eat out too. Indulge in a roast dinner with all the trimmings at a traditional country inn or sample the menu at a gastro pub in one of the area’s vibrant market towns.
Try fine dining in an intimate restaurant or enjoy an over-flowing plate with a bar meal in a beer garden, washed down with a pint of local brew.
Don’t forget our cosy coffee shops and tea rooms offering locally produced coffee and tea blends alongside delicious home-made cakes.
There is a different eating place to explore every night on a trip to Cumbria.
I do not know a place more naturally divine
