Kat's Kitchen is 100% plant-based cafe where you will find brunch and lunch options along with a selection of drinks including Matcha and Beetroot Lattes and the energy boosting High-Octane Coffee.
The cafe has a talented team in their kitchen with Chef Rob bringing experience from Japan, Dubai, the Philippines as well as throughout the Lake District. Chef Michael learnt his craft while living in Greece and brings a distinctive Mediterranean influence to his creations with his speciality being pastries. Kat brings her Australian heritage to the cafe with her baking definitely leaning towards the Tropics with cakes like the Coconut, Lime and Mango or her own Banana Loaf which was highly commended by the Speaker of the House, Mr John Bercoe.
Kat's Kitchen was, at the time of writing this, the only vegan business to be showcased in the Houses of Parliament, representing the diverse independent businesses and culinary experiences available in Cumbria. It was there that the Speaker recorded a video of his delight at Kat's Banana Loaf, which is a staple on the cake menu.
The menu changes seasonally but is a blend of light bites – bagels, wraps, etc and heartier meals, such as Chef Rob’s Ramen Bowl or Chef Michael’s Keftedes (Greek style meat balls) in a rich tomato sauce. Kat’s Buddha bowl is a firm favourite in the café. If you are too full for cake – you can always take it away with you – the selection is ever changing and is a selection of creamy cake, slices of lemon drizzle, biscuits, shortbreads and croissants usually featuring on the menu.
Kat's also offers bespoke cakes for your special occasions and is available for outside catering, whether in your own home/accommodation or as a hamper for a special moment in your life. Pocket pies and an assortment of treats are available to pre-order and collect for a day of adventure on the hills, in the forest or around Derwentwater.
