Our Head Chef Chris and his brigade produce an outstanding menu featuring local produce. The menu is traditional English Inspired but with a twist. The front of house team is led by Nick and pride themselves on a professional yet unobtrusive service.

The Riverside Bar

The Riverside bar is an ideal place to finish after a good hearty walk where you can enjoy a drink and discuss your day’s adventures in front of open fires (seasonal) or on the veranda during those warmer months.

The bar is the public bar directly beside the Scafell Hotel and offers a great range of real ales from Jennings, Copper Dragon and Old Peculiar to beers from Local and Micro breweries like Keswick Brewery, Hesket Newmarket and Barngates , fine malts (we have over 60 to choose from), great ‘Fill Yer Boot’s’ food with regular specials and proper Cumbrian ‘crack’. Here you meet the locals from around Borrowdale Valley as well as other visitors within the area.

This popular bar overlooks the river yet is cosy in all weather. This is where the popular Borrowdale Fell Race finishes and a good place to meet many of the fell race stars or view the Fell Race winner’s board above the main fireplace. Pop along to experience some real Lakeland’ and enjoy the laid back atmosphere with great service.

Dogs are very welcome.

Bar opening hours are 12 noon – 11pm (10.30pm on Sundays) – with food served 12 noon – 2.30pm & 6.00pm – 9pm daily. ) All times are subject to change.
