After five years of consultation and co-ordination with members of the community who live in Ennerdale Bridge or scattered around the Ennerdale fells, April 2016 saw the launch of The Gather Café, Shop and Community Rooms.
Thanks to £620,000 from the BIG Lottery and funding from Wild Ennerdale, the Lake District National Park and the Copeland Community Fund we have been able to build a bespoke Centre for the village and visitors.
We have been welcoming customers from all over the world!
As well as our café, shop and community rooms we have showers and an Information Area with details of local walks, businesses, landmarks and activities in the region.
Given the rapidly worsening position locally with Covid-19 infection rates The Gather team have made the decision to close until further notice. Our loyal customers can rest assured that we have an agreed plan in place to reopen in a staged manner as soon as the tier system allows us to do so safely.
Our click n collect offering that provides a much needed resource to the local community will remain in operation throughout this period through continued support from the staff and volunteers.
Once we are able to reopen we will continue to offer our wide range of local products, including:
Cumbrian Roasted Carvetii Coffee - Cappucino, latte, flat white, Americano and espresso
Specialist teas – personal tea pots with an unusual range of teas
Scones, cream and jam
Sandwiches with locally sourced fillings
Hartley's locally made ice cream – from Egremont.
Locally sourced produce is our main criterion. We stock:
Fresh eggs, bread from a local bakery, cold drinks, Hartley's icecream, local jams and chutneys and basic groceries.
Cumbrian produced gifts, pottery, felt and leather crafts, jewellery, art, photographs, greeting cards, postcards, candles, clothing, Herdy range of mugs and gifts, Hawkshead Relishes – and much more!
We also stock walking and cycling essentials such as plasters and simple repair kits.
2020 saw the launch of Great Artists - Small Venue, funded by the Arts Council, This project based Upstairs @ The Gather supports high quality creative experiences for local audiences, our aim was to bring groups of upto 60 people together to enjoy music. The current Covid-19 crisis has a direct impact on that ambition. Using a revised title, Great Artists - Virtual Venue we do a weekly stream of the artists who were previously confirmed to play live. Join us every Tuesday at 7pm.
