About

Ghyll Scrambling – Langdale

Situated in the heart of The Lake District National Park is Stickle Ghyll. A truly unique ghyll that winds its way up the mountain side towards Stickle Tarn, which is nestled between the magnificent Langdale Pikes.

Explore natures playground and marvel at the stunning scenery on offer. Take the plunge into crystal clear pools and scramble your way up numerous rocky scrambles and waterfalls. This ghyll finishes with an optional big roped climb right up the middle of a 12m waterfall.

Our expert guides know the ghyll's intimately and will tailor the day to your group offering up loads of fun challenges along the way. All the challenges, pools and climbs are optional.

This is the least aquatic of our ghylls in low water and is great if you want to stay a bit drier, however there are plenty of opportunities to get fully immersed if you so wish. It is a great venue in high water or winter months when all the other ghylls can become inaccessible.

The start is next to the car park and it is accessible with a public footpath running up the entire length. Perfect if you have party members that wish to spectate, but don't want to get their feet wet.

Extended Ghyll and Swim

Love wild swimming? Extend your time with us and combine this ghyll scramble in Langdale with a swim in Stickle Tarn.

What we provide:

We use both the lower and upper sections of Stickle Ghyll - at no extra cost. In this section you will find ever more brilliant scrambles, challenges, pools and an optional 12m roped climb!!

We also provide the best quality kit and equipment. Our winter thickness wetsuits and snug neoprene socks are always clean, dry and fitted correctly, enabling you to have a fantastic experience whatever the weather.

We can capture your adventure for you free of charge on a waterproof digital camera.

Other Ghyll Scrambling venues:

We use a variety of Ghyll Scrambling venues around Coniston, Langdale, Eskdale and Wasdale.  We'll use the best venue to suit your location and group. Minimum age of 4 years.

We also have the ultimate all-day adventure with our Extreme Ghyll - not for the faint hearted. It involves loads of massive jumps of up to 8 metres in height!!! (Minimum age of 14 and a reasonable level of fitness required as this is a very physical day).

Family Ghyll Scrambling

Ghyll Scrambling for young explorers. An adventure aimed specifically for families with young children. If your kids love splashing about in water or you want them to build water confidence then this is the activity for you. Wetsuit up and scramble your way up a mountain stream. Climbing, splashing, jumping and laughing all the way. Ages 4+

The ghyll’s we choose for young families are easily accessible. There are always options to avoid the deeper pools and obstacles if needed. Our expert instructors will offer a variety of challenges that both kids and adults will love. We can capture your adventure for you free of charge on a waterproof digital camera.
