About

Dan & Becki are INTO THE OUTSIDE.

Both experienced outdoor instructors specialising in bespoke outdoor adventures, mountain challenge events, adventure treks, tours and experiences.

Based in the English Lake District, Dan and Becki can tailor an adventure to suit your needs whether that is scaling the highest mountain, kayaking a raging river, shredding some epic downhill on the bike or leaping from a waterfall into crystal clear waters!

Lakes 3000s Challenge

The Lakes 3000s is a challenge event that involves walking each of the Lake District Mountains that rise above 3000ft. These are also known as the Lakes 3000 Footers, whose summits include: Skiddaw (3,054ft), Helvellyn (3,117ft), Scafell (3,162ft) and Scafell Pike (3,209ft).

The Lakes 3000s is a major undertaking involving some 12,550ft of ascent and descent, 14 kilometres of walking over difficult terrain and exposure to the mountain elements for an extended period of time.

This is an excellent event to test your mental and physical resolve. A Lake District Guided Walk will assess your fitness and stamina, and be an indicator of your readiness for this event.

I strongly recommend signing up for a Lake District Guided Walk - join me, Dan, your experienced mountain leader, in an activity that will test your ability and improve your confidence in the great outdoors!

The Lakes 3000s are an excellent stand-alone event and can be used as stepping stone to complete the National 3 Peaks or Yorkshire 3 Peaks.

Please see the website for a summery of the day, durations and the fitness and equipment guide.

Star Wars Guided Walk

A long time ago in a Lake District far, far away...

Is there any better way to spend a day in the beautiful Lake District mountains than whilst geeking out about the new Star Wars film; The Force Awakens!

Our Star Wars The Force Awakens Lake District Guided Walk takes you on an epic day out around the fells surrounding Derwent Water, the location of the fictional planet Takodana.

You will start on the Western side of Derwent Water and begin the day ascending Catbells, a classic mountain that looks out towards Maiden Moor and High Spy. You will witness spectacular views of all the surrounding fells and beyond. It truly is a walk from another galaxy!

We will then descend close to the village of Grange and walk to Abbots Bay and stop for lunch at Great Bay. This is where the Millennium Falcon lands as Han Solo, Chewbacca and Rey visit the 1000 year old creature Maz Kanata at her interstellar bar. This is where Rey collects Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber (film spoiler sorry).

Great Bay is a perfect place to look out over Derwent Water and marvel at Skiddaw and Blencathra in the distance, imagining the Resistance's X-wing fighters of Poe Dameron battalion fly overhead and battle the First Order's Tie Fighters.

After lunch we will escape the Stormtroopers and walk along the Eastern side of Derwent Water past Mary Mount, Lady's Rake and Great Wood. We will then walk through the lovely market town of Keswick before rounding off our Star Wars The Force Awakens Lake District Guided Walk through Nicol End and Silver Hill. Finishing back at Hawes End.

A perfect day out for all with plenty of Star Wars trivia thrown in!

Scafell Pike Guided Walk

Into the Outside's Lake District Guided Walk of Scafell Pike is a sure fire classic. Scafell Pike is England’s Highest Mountain, standing an impressive 977m/3205 feet tall. It is a beckoning symbol that at some point in your life must be climbed, with all paths to the top crossing remote, rugged and wild terrain.

Scafell Pike is also part of the Into the Outside Lakes 3000s and the National 3 Peaks.

Starting point: Seathwaite
Height: 3,205ft/977m
Distance: 15m
Difficulty: Moderate
Length: 5 Hours

Skiddaw Guided Walk

Skiddaw is the fourth highest mountain in the Lake District and can sometimes be unfairly labelled as dull.

Nothing can be further from the truth. Into The Outside's Lake District Guided Walk of Skiddaw is an excellent day out with a summit that is wild and rocky and runs for a mile and a half with some of the best views in all of the northwestern lakes. Skiddaw is also part of the Into The Outside Lakes 3000s.

Start Point: Latrigg
Height: 931m
Distance: 10km
Difficulty: Easy
Length: 4.5 Hours

Helvellyn Guided Walk

This is a chance to explore Into The Outside's Lake District Guided Walk of Helvellyn & Striding Edge.

This mythical mountain, standing at 950m, is one of the great mountains of the Lake District. Helvellyn offers the walker the chance to step back in time to rocky terrain and narrow glaciated edges. It is one of England’s four three-thousand-foot summits and is home of the best ridge walk in Britain – Striding Edge. Referenced by the poet William Wordsworth in his work ‘Fidelity’ the flat summit plateau is a great place to take in the stunning views in every direction. Helvellyn is also part of the Into The Outside Lakes 3000s.

Start Point: Glenridding
Height: 950m
Distance: 10km
Difficulty: Hard
Length: 5 Hours

Blencathra Guided Walk

Into The Outside's Lake District Guided Walk of Blencathra is a real classic.

The ascent, up Sharp Edge, is an adventure you will never forget. The famous old mountain, known until recently as Saddleback, is one of the best know in the Lake District and is a true mountaineers’ mountain. Standing high over the road that links Penrith and Keswick, Blencathra, is a mountain that compels attention from all.

Start Point: Threlkeld
Height: 868m
Distance: 13km
Difficulty: Hard
Length: 4 Hours

Bowfell Guided Walk

Into The Outside's Lake District Guided Walk of Bowfell & Esk Pike begins by climbing up the legendary Band, the mountain’s long eastern arm.

The gentle start allows you take in the views and savour this magnificent day. The legendary Three Tarns is a great spot to stop and capture the views before the final rocky push to the summit. From here we take the gentle descent to Ore Gap and rise to Esk Pike. The final leg of this glorious guided walk sees us past Angle Tarn and Rossett Gill before returning to the magnificent Langdale Valley floor.

Start Point: ODG Hotel
Height: 902m
Distance: 14km
Difficulty: Moderate
Length: 5 Hours

Langdale Pikes Guided Walk

There are so many delights, on this Into The Outside Lake District Guided Walk of the Langdale Pikes, that it is hard to describe it all in such a small space.

Great Langdale does such a fantastic job of summarising the Lake District; great tarns, huge crags, great peaks, stunning views, waterfalls and becks, that there really is no better place to visit. It really is a fantastic day out for anyone wanting a truly wild time.

Start Point: Sticklebarn
Height: 736m
Distance: 9km
Difficulty: Moderate
Length: 4.5 Hours

Fairfield Guided Walk

Fairfield is one of the most impressive Lake District fell walks, and for lovers of high level circuits, this is a sure fire ‘classic’.

The Fairfield Horseshoe is a stunning sight and towers high above Ambleside, 872m, leaving the shoppers and coffee goers looking up in awe. From Fairfield’s summit you can see spectacular views in every direction. The Fairfield Horseshoe is host to eight summits including Low Pike, High Pike, Dove Crag, Hart Crag, Great Rigg, Heron Pike and Nab Scar.

Start Point: Ambleside
Height: 873m
Distance: 16km
Difficulty: Moderate
Length: 5 Hours

Great Gable Guided Walk

This is a chance to explore Great Gable, one of the most popular Into The Outside Lake District Guided Walks.

Great Gable is a mountain lying in the heart of the Lake District offering some of the best panoramic views from its rocky summit. The route begins at Honister Pass and works its way through complex, high level terrain to Beck Head, the saddle between Great Gable and Kirk Fell. A rugged and wild climb leads us to the mountain’s mighty summit followed by a steep rough descent across Windy Gap. From here we cross the wide complex ridge and work our way over to Green Gable and Brandreth to reach Grey Knotts.

Start Point: Seathwaite
Height: 899m
Distance: 12km
Difficulty: Moderate
Length: 5 Hours

Coledale Guided Walk

The Coledale Horseshoe is a high level route with a stunning array of summits, passes and views.

It is one of the best horseshoe walks in the northwest Lake District if not the best. Most of the hard work on this Into The Outside Lake District Guided Walk is spent on the first 3km. But once the hike up to Grisedale Pike from Braithwaite is complete the rest is glorious. From the first Wainwright of the day a good path leads along Hobcarton Crag to Hopegill Head and the view of the coastline, on a clear day, is unrivalled. After walking along Coledale Hause we reach the high point of the day, Eel Crag, at the head of the horseshoe. The crossing over Sail to Scar Crags is a real treat before we reach Causey Pike and the exciting descent back to Braithwaite.

Start Point: Braithwaite
Height: 852m
Distance: 16km
Difficulty: Hard
Length: 6 Hours

The Famous Edges Guided Walk (2 days)

Combine two of the most famous walks in the UK over two spectacular days.

Climb Helvellyn via Striding Edge and the next day tackle Blencathra's Sharp Edge. Not only do you climb two of the most beautiful mountains in the Lake District but you get another narrow edge walk thrown in as you descend Swirral Edge too! If you have a head for heights and like scrambling narrow ridgelines this is the 2 day adventure for you!

Bob Graham Round

The historic Lake District 66-mile route, completed by Bob Graham in 1932, is now a hugely popular challenge. One that you can now complete with Into The Outside.

Taken on by the world best endurance athletes in 24 hours, The Bob Graham Round, takes in 42 Lakeland Fells and 26,900 feet (8,200m) of ascent. Along with the Paddy Buckley Round, the Bob Graham Round is one of the classic big three mountain endurance challenges in the UK.

You will be please to know that you can now complete the Bob Graham Round Into The Outside in a multi day expedition, over 3 or 4 days, wild camping along the way. It is a truly great way to complete the challenge, adding a new dimension to multi day trekking and self sufficiency in the mountains.

After each days walking we will find a beautiful place to wild camp, cook up dinner, rest our feet and watch the stars above our heads. Totally wild and alone in the mountains.

An epic challenge that will test only the most determined trekker. With sublime views, valleys, waterfalls, tarns, lakes and crags this is the ultimate way to get to know the Lake District.

The Bob Graham Round is a great way to raise money for charity, have fun with friends or just get away from the hustle and bustle and immerse yourself in the mountains.

The Bob Graham Round is a great challenge and a serious undertaking. It will test you mentally and physically and I recommend coming out on one or both the Lakes 3000s or the Yorkshire 3 Peaks as a warm up. You want to give yourself the best possible chance for success!

Dates can be arranged but preferably over the summer months as this gives you the best advantage with day time hours.
