About

Free Walking Tours in Ambleside, Windermere, Bowness & Kendal. Escape the crowds & access wonderful local walks with Adele.

Adele runs a small glamping business on her dad’s South Lakeland farm and loves walking & showing visitors to the area its hidden gems. Experience a stunning lowland walk, offering the most spectacular views, and gain local insights & recommendations.

See the Lake District and its wonderful towns & villages from a new perspective & hear about how farming and the wool industry has shaped the landscape.

All walks are under 2 hours, accessible by public transport, and near toilets & refreshments.

Guided walks include:

Kendal Fell
Discover the charming town of Kendal. This walk will give you a unique introduction to its culture & beautiful landscapes. Meeting at the Brewery Arts Centre, we’ll visit Castle Howe (Kendal’s first motte & bailey castle), the old Beast Banks post office (the inspiration for Mrs Goggin’s Post Office in the Postman Pat series) and ascend through Serpentine Woods to Kendal Fell & Kendal Golf Club, offering spectacular views of the town & Lake District fells.

Brant Fell, Bowness
A hidden gem among the Wainwrights at 191m. Discover breathtaking views of Lake Windermere and the stunning Lake District mountains. On page 34 of volume 8, Wainwright said: “A visitor to Bowness with time to kill or wishing to escape the throngs of day-trippers cannot do better than walk up Brant Fell and, in solitude, enjoy its fine prospect of Windermere or a simple scramble on its inviting summit rocks.” This circular route also enjoys woodland paths & three beautiful tarns.

Orrest Head, Windermere
Uncover the magic of the first fell that transformed Alfred Wainwright’s life. In 1930, he saw his first view of the Lakeland mountains from Orrest Head and said, “Those few hours on Orrest Head cast a spell that changed my life.” This is a circular walk starting from Windermere Station and utilises public footpaths that avoid the signposted/busier paths. Enjoy a variety of wonderful views of the lake & surrounding countryside along the way to the summit

Lily Tarn, Ambleside
Escape the crowds with this short walk from the centre of Ambleside to Lily Tarn, offering spectacular views of Ambleside, Lake Windermere & the Lake District fells. On the way back to the town, we follow the river to the lake, and discover the Roman ruins.

OS route maps of other local walks, and bespoke walks are also available.
