Morland House gardens, laid out in the 1880's, are famous for their variety and natural beauty with the spacious lawns and walled rose garden giving views to the Pennines. The croquet lawn was recently re-laid and the colourful herbaceous border is glorious from April to October. Morland beck enters the garden via a high natural 'force' and cascades down into an upper pool feeding the stream flowing through the lower garden and viewed from the Beck Walk.
Crossing the beck by the traditonal wooden footbridge or stepping stones, find a secret wonderland where nature runs riot in a Victorian former quarry garden complete with grotto and cliff walk.
The main gardens are open every day of the year from 10 - 5.
About Morland House
Morland House, in the heart of the Eden Valley, is a former Tudor vicarage but much of its character results from it being the home to the Markham family since 1828. The house is full of antique furnishings, original paintings and curios collected over the years. The oak-panelled dining and drawing rooms, with log fires, seat 18. The nine bedrooms are each themed on a particular Markham ancestor from the last three centuries.
