Stargazing Rucksacks at Ivythwaite Lodge

Conveniently nestled between Windermere and Bowness-on-Windermere, Ivythwaite Lodge is a traditional Lakeland stone and flint guest house offering guests the warmest of welcomes.  

We are proud to promote the stunning dark skies which the Lake District offers and have resources and equipment to help our guests enjoy the night’s sky with an evening of stargazing.

We have two stargazing rucksacks available for guests to use during their stay, please note these are bookable in advance. Each pack contains a mini telescope, night field binoculars, a regular mini torch, a red filtered torch, a thermos flask of tea or coffee, and two fleece blankets. To help you make the most of your stargazing activity, we also provide a helpful Stargazing Resource Folder including a sky map, suggested stargazing spots, a dark skies calendar, top tips for beginners, and suggested apps and websites.

After your evening of stargazing, the Lodge, originally built as a gentleman’s residence in the 1860s, offers a very comfortable night’s stay with three double bedrooms, two with four poster beds, and one larger bedroom with a super king size bed and the facility for an additional single bed. All our rooms are en suite and contain spa baths, with three of them containing indulgent double spa baths.

After a good night’s sleep, enjoy a delicious breakfast in our elegant dining room warmed in the winter months by a cosy log burner. Whilst our Cumbrian breakfast with locally sourced sausages, bacon and eggs tends to be the popular choice, our large breakfast menu also offers a range of vegetarian and vegan options.
