About

The Gather is the only space in the Lake District with a community of qualified outdoor leaders. It is a ”bureau des guides”, a place where you can find information about safely accessing the mountains and fells and make contact with qualified mountain leaders who can guide you as part of a group or on your own bespoke adventure.

Here you can join guided events, find out about the local trails, learn navigation skills, attend outdoor focused book launches with the author and view exhibitions. Whilst the Lake District mountains might look benign, inclement weather that changes very quickly, slippy rock, few marked trails and technical terrain all make them worthy of respect. For those who haven’t ventured into the mountains before, or for those whose navigation skills might be rusty or even for those who just want someone else to work out the route joining a guided group can be a fun and relaxed way of learning new skills, making new friends and creating some fabulous Lake District memories.

Whether you want to become a better trail runner, want to learn to enjoy using a head torch and going into the fells at night, want to learn how to wild swim or find some of the best and least visited tarns or view points, taking a guide is the safest way and the most enjoyable way for many. All the guided groups cater to many different levels - you don’t have to be a regular hiker or want to reach the highest peaks. There is something for everyone and mountain leaders are trained to assess your capabilities and ensure you have an enjoyable day, whilst explaining the key features you will see, the flora and fauna and most importantly making sure you remain safe.

At the Gather you will find those who can help you have a real Lake District adventure.
