About

A range of outdoor activities offered through our sister company Windermere Canoe Kayak

Stand Up Paddleboard on Windermere

Hire a stand up paddle board SUP for 2 hours on Windermere from just £20 with free shore based instruction. Everything you need to get you hooked on this fast growing sport.

Total Adventure's sister company, Windermere Canoe and Kayak, have 2 locations on Windermere chosen for their access to the quieter, calmer areas of the lake - perfect for beginners. Explore islands, take a picnic or journey further. Suitable for all abilities and perfect for groups. GIANT SUP also available for 8 people or more. Also hire a SUP and take it with you for the day to explore other areas of the Lake District.

Gorge/Ghyll scrambling

A fun Lake District experience that we offer for groups & families. Ascend a secluded, rocky mountain Ghyll (Stream) using your hands & feet. Jump in, scramble across, enjoy the breath-taking scenery. A must for adventurers! Gorge Scrambling is hard to describe in a way that does the activity justice. Until you have actually done it you will never quite understand what fun it can be!

In simple terms, you make your way up the mountainside with your group in a hidden gorge. The atmosphere and sounds in the gorge are quite different from anywhere else. you'll scramble up rocks, using your hands and feet, pause to catch your breath and look back to where you have come from - WOW! You may climb a waterfall (or hide behind one) step into a crystal clear pool, slide down a rock. Basically you make the activity up as you go along - with the help of an expert guide. Eventually, you'll emerge to some of the most stunning views in England!

This activity needs booking in advance, so please email us with your requirements. Minimum group size is 10 people.

Canoeing

Canoe hire is available from our sister company, Windermere Canoe Kayak, run by experienced staff and trained coaches. Canoes are great adventure boats especially for families. In order to hire, we do ask that you have some previous experience especially if the water is choppy, otherwise our kayaks are available to hire from the same locations on Windermere. For more info, or to book canoe hire please visit www.windermerecanoekayak.com

Kayaking

Hire a kayak and take to Windermere for a fresh perspective of the Lake District. From the best locations on Windermere you will have direct access to the lake. Explore the islands, take a picnic, jump in and have loads of fun. Great for groups and families. Multi activity discounts available. All instruction given by qualified and friendly staff. Available from Bowness on Windermere, and the Ambleside YHA, Waterhead near Ambleside.

Hire a kayak anyday - great for families & no experience necessary. For info on guided kayaking please email our team at office@windermerecanoekayak.com

Lake District Cycle Hire

Hire a bike from our shop in Windermere. We are just 2 minutes from the train and bus station. Choose from premium electric hybrids and MTBs - Hardtail MTBs - Children's bikes, trailers and tagalongs. Helmets are included as standard.

Explore the Lake District by bike, the best way to see it! Experience more than you can by foot in the same amount of time, but outside of the confines of the car or the tour bus, and away from the traffic!

At Total Adventure Bike Hire we choose to buy better equipment for you to hire. So our standard MTBs aren't just entry level bikes that you might normally find, this means your bike hire experience is enhanced by the equipment you are hiring.

Electric bikes - When it comes to eBikes we take this philosophy even further. Our Bosch equipped range of Scott eBikes are cherry picked from the range by us. Why? Only the most powerful motors Bosch produce and the longest range batteries Bosch make are featured on our eBikes, meaning these are the machines you need to crush the Lake District terrain and make the most of your day out on an electric bike.

Our Windermere shop is a hire point for bike hire. We also have venues at Bowness-on-Winderemere and Ambleside for bike hire, these two waterside venues also have paddlesport equipment to hire. Choose from canoes, kayaks and stand up paddle boards. For enquiries about hiring equipment for the water based activities please email office@windermerecanoekayak.com
