Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery is Carlisle's finest visitor attraction, and houses considerable collections of fine and decorative art, human history and natural sciences.
Old Tullie House is set in attractive and well-planted gardens. Beyond its attractive façade, there is an impressive Jacobean staircase and fireplace. A wood-panelled room displays Pre-Raphaelite art and Arts & Crafts items, whilst the Exhibition Gallery in the modern extension to the museum is one of the biggest and most attractive contemporary galleries in the region.
In the main displays you will be taken on a journey through the ages, from the prehistoric Cumbria, through the eras of the Romans, Border Reivers and Victorians to the present day. You will also encounter wildlife of the Eden valley (set under a changing audio-visual ceiling display) and a new gallery setting out a fabulous costume collection.
The Tullie House experience has been widely recognised with awards: InCumbria’s Best Tourism & Hospitality Business, Carlisle Living ‘Best Team’ and Cumbria Life ‘Exhibition of the Year’ were all gained in 2019.
Group rates: Admission £5.00pp (min group size 10). Curatorial talk £5.00pp extra. Travel leader and/or coach driver are free.
