About

Built during Queen Victoria's reign in 1863.

For over 150 years, 1863 has quite literally been a cornerstone of the village. The property is set in the heart of Pooley Bridge, a pretty village on the shores of Ullswater in the Lake District. It was built first as the village blacksmith and later it became the post office.

Re-imagined for the 21st Century.

Now 1863 is more than a bar, bistro and B&B accommodation with seven elegant bedrooms; we are a family affair who enjoy getting the little things just right, welcoming guests back times and again to share in a slice of Lake District paradise.

The house is perfectly located for making the most of Ullswater without even having to use your car. Leave it on our car park, stroll into the village centre, then wander along the river to the lake itself and enjoy the breathtaking scenery and tranquillity of Ullswater.

Rambling or relaxing, biking or boating, whatever the reason for your stay, Pooley Bridge caters for all.
Here at 1863 Bar Bistro Rooms you are assured of the perfect haven where you can relax and unwind.

1863 has a beautiful 30 seat bistro were you can enjoy locally-sourced, seasonal dishes cooked up by our skilled kitchen team before retiring to the bar or lounge for a night cap or to bed for restful sleep. We have ample free parking on site with additional spaces off site if required.
