Show & Tell
Alan Ayckbourn's 90th play
Alan Ayckbourn's 90th play is a celebration of theatre, a delightfully dark farce lifting the lid on the performances we act out on a daily basis.
8-12 October at the Old Laundry Theatre
Jack's planning a big party for his wife's birthday. He's pulling out all the stops and has booked a touring theatre company to perform in the main hall of the family home. The only problem is that Jack is getting a bit forgetful in his old age and can't remember all the details of the booking…
The Homelight Theatre Company is on its knees. They desperately need a well-paid gig and Jack's booking is very well paid. Pinning him down on the details has been tricky and something doesn't feel quite right.
"He is a kind of English Chekhov who is also an incomparably fine director of his own serious comedies"
The Wall Street Journal on The Girl Next Door (2021)
"Ayckbourn's deft and light touch takes you deviously into darker reaches of the soul"
Scarborough News on Family Album (2022)

The Daily Mail on Constant Companions (2023)

Alan Ayckbourn has a long association with The Old Laundry Theatre. Almost every year since the Old Laundry opened in 1992 it has proudly presented a production written and directed by Ayckbourn. Consequently, Sir Alan has a large fan base in the Lake District and surrounding areas, and the theatre is extremely lucky to be able to work with arguably the greatest playwright of our time for not one but two productions in Bowness this year. As of 2024, Alan Ayckbourn has written 90 full-length plays and is recognised as one of the world's most successful and performed living playwrights. His plays are staged throughout the world and have been translated into more than 35 different languages. The Old Laundry is thrilled to have his latest, and 90th play 'Show and Tell' on its world premiere tour.
