About

Make your own unique festive decorations and ornamental pieces in beautiful coloured glass.

We are delighted that International Glass Artist Karen Redmayne will be taking our Fused Glass workshops this year. You will learn about different types of glass used in fusing work, dichroic and iridescent and also about the all important COE (Coefficient of expansion) – vital to understand in glass fusing as it makes sure the right types of glass are used together.

You will learn how to cut, and what can be done with glass in a kiln in terms of fusing, stacking, tack fusing and slumping. You will also learn about various inclusions and their different applications, using frits, stringers, stamps and foils and other fragments. You will be able to make jewellery, coasters, plaques, waved sheets or Christmas decorations, the choice is yours depending on the amount of glass you wish to use.
Covid 19 and our courses. We are looking forward to re-opening in late July 2020 and this will see the majority of our Quirky Workshop days taking place in our newly restored large and spacious, listed barn. This new first floor studio will allow comfortable spacing of 8-10 tables distanced at 2m, as well as offering two staircases, hand washing stations and an open ceiling offering much natural light with many windows for good air flow. It is a perfect space to craft in.

In addition, all those previous, close up 'gather round' demonstrations will, for the foreseeable future, be filmed using a webcam by the tutor and be projected onto a large screen behind their table for everyone to see. This will allow close detail of demonstrations to be seen whilst remaining at desks.
Tasty two course Aga lunches will be served on individual trays, to be taken in the walled garden (under gazebos if needed), or in other parts of our the stone buildings. Our Longbow making courses, Cob Pizza Ovens, Raku pottery, Furniture painting, Relief Wood Carving, Blacksmithing and Stone Carving courses will all continue to take place outside (mostly during the summer months) with distancing in place …and shelter available if needed. Cookery Days, previously held cosily in our farmhouse kitchen, cannot be offered in the current climate.
All our day workshops include a lovely two course Aga lunch, fresh coffees, tea and cake later in the day.
Please see our own website for a full listing of our courses. Several new dates have been added for summer 2020.
