Our series of free Afternoon Recitals continues, we welcome David Edmonds, Charles Edmondson and Wendy Nicholas to our Fratry Hall .
Entry to our afternoon concerts is free; there is a collection taken at the end of each concert - please give what you can to support the artists and the Cathedral.
David Edmonds was born and lives in Kendal. He was the principal flute player in the Cumbria Youth Orchestra and in 1994, commenced studies with Clare Southworth at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, from where he graduated.
David was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain for two years and in 1994, was a woodwind finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year.
David is a member of several local orchestras and ensembles as well as being accompanist to several local choirs.
Charles Edmondson was born in West Yorkshire and in 1957, aged seventeen, became assistant organist at Bradford Cathedral.
A Bachelor of Music (Trinity College, Dublin) and a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists, he embarked on a career in music education, working in North Devon, West Suffolk, North Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire as a teacher, lecturer, adviser and (Ofsted) inspector.
He has given 400 organ recitals in venues throughout Britain including Blackburn, Bradford, Carlisle, Bury St Edmunds, Newcastle and Ripon Cathedrals.
Now living in Kendal, he is the organist at St Paul's Church, Grange over Sands.
Wendy Nicholas has lived in Cumbria since 1990 and has been involved in many musical organisations as accompanist and has played the bassoon with the Westmorland Orchestra for 26 years.
Having greatly enjoyed a career in education for 33 years, latterly as Headteacher at Beetham CE Primary School, Wendy trained through the Royal Horticultural Society and now has an outdoor lifestyle working in horticulture.
Wendy discovered the joys of duetting whilst studying music at the University of Lancaster and has enjoyed exploring and performing the rich and exciting repertoire for four and even six hands at one piano.
