About

The multi award winning South Tynedale Railway is situated in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Global Geopark. The track runs from Alston in Cumbria through the beautiful South Tyne Valley, an area steeped in history, to Slaggyford in Northumberland with the Roman fort of Epiacum close by.  Visitors are able to visit the engineering workshop gallery, find out what the volunteers are working on and learn about the history of the railway.

Road Directions

Alston station is just to the north of the town centre on the A686. Sat Nav postcode CA9 3JB. There is a large car park, free parking and the car park is suitable for coaches.

Public Transport Directions

Public bus services vary seasonally and include Newcastle, Hexham, Carlisle, Haltwhistle, Keswick and Stanhope. Visit traveline or Go North East for further information.
