About

The King Alfred Hotel on Walney is a thriving community pub with 10 en-suite bedrooms.

With rooms overlooking Walney Channel we are greatly situated for midweek contractors to anyone looking for a weekend get away with a difference. Walney Island is a hidden gem off the coast off Barrow-in-Furness with miles of beaches, two nature reserves (the south one with a thriving grey seal population), and the country's 3rd old lynx golf course you are not short of things to do.

The pub aspect of the hotel is open from 8am each morning for breakfast serving food right though until 8pm everyday apart from Sunday when service finishes at 6pm. The menu consists of a wide range of foods from good old pub classics to authentic Thai curries. A wide range of drinks are available including lagers, cask ales and a wine & cocktail menu.

Three TV screens show all major sporting events and live music can be enjoyed most weekends.

Road Directions

Exit the M6: Take Junction 36 (towards Kendal/Barrow-in-Furness) and join the A590 westbound. Follow the A590: Continue on the A590, following signs for Barrow-in-Furness. Stay on this route past Ulverston and Dalton-in-Furness. Approach Barrow: As you enter Barrow, the A590 leads into the town center where it merges with local roads. Follow signs for Walney Island/Ocean Road. Cross Jubilee Bridge to Ocean Road: From the A590, take the appropriate exit onto Ocean Road, which leads toward the coast. Arrive at the Hotel: The King Alfred Hotel is located at Ocean Road, Walney Island, Barrow-in-Furness, LA14 3DX, United Kingdom. There is free private parking available, and the hotel is also within walking distance of local amenities and the train station

Public Transport Directions

🚍 By Bus (the easiest option) Two main bus routes serve Walney from Barrow town centre: 1. Bus 1 (Stagecoach) – North Walney - Runs frequently from Barrow Town Hall / Schneider Square. - Crosses Jubilee Bridge and goes up Central Drive. - Get off at Ocean Road (ask the driver if unsure). - The hotel is a short walk from the stop. 2. Bus 2 (Stagecoach) – South Walney - Also leaves from Barrow Town Hall / Schneider Square. - Get off at St Mary's Church Promenade stop - Walk up Ocean Road, it’s a longer walk than from Bus 1 but not by much 🚆 If you're coming by train - Arrive at Barrow-in-Furness railway station. - Walk 8–10 minutes to Schneider Square (straight down Abbey Road). - Catch Bus 1 to Walney. 🚕 Taxi option (if buses are infrequent) Local taxis from Barrow town centre or the station take 5–7 minutes to the hotel.
