About

Swarthmoor Hall is a 17th century, Grade II* listed country house. The Hall is regarded as the cradle of Quakerism as it was here in 1652 that the Quaker movement was formed during a period of enormous political and religious turmoil. The atmospheric old Hall has recently been restored by a team of heritage and conservation contractors to provide an immersive experience where visitors can discover more about this exciting period of British history. We’re easy to get to by car or via public transport – 15 minutes on foot from the train station.

The Hall is set in beautiful grounds with woodland trails, formal gardens, a wildflower meadow and a kitchen garden. Visitors can relax throughout the year, even when the Hall is closed, in our cosy cafe or browse for something special in our gift shop. We have a number of self-catering apartments and cottages on site that are available year-round, so why not book to stay here as well. We are committed to embracing sustainability in line with Quaker values, have achieved a Green Tourism Silver accreditation and are working towards achieving the Gold level.

Dogs are allowed in the gardens and café, and in 2 of our self-catering units, assistance dogs only in the historic Hall.
