Towns and Villages

Discover the places that shape the Cumbria Coastal Route

From seaside villages to historic harbour towns and a bustling city, the Cumbria Coastal Route is home to vibrant communities with a range of shops, eateries and attractions.

Starting in the south, explore the coastal charm of Arnside and Grange-over-Sands, before heading to the bustling market town of Ulverston. Further along the route, Barrow-in-Furness and Millom offer a glimpse into Cumbria’s industrial heritage, while Ravenglass and St Bees showcase the beauty of the western coast.

Continue north to the historic harbour town of Whitehaven, then on to Maryport, with its strong Roman roots. Along the Solway Coast, discover the seaside town of Silloth and the peaceful village of Bowness-on-Solway, before finishing your journey in the border city of Carlisle.
