For something truly unique, experience a Cross Bay Walk on Morecambe Bay - it’s only possible with a Royally appointed guide on selected dates throughout the summer months.
Short detours into the Lake District mountains offer the chance to walk a Wainwright while experiencing Cumbria’s coast. Head inland to the Wasdale Valley, just a short distance from Ravenglass, to tackle England’s highest peak and admire some of the country’s most dramatic scenery.
The Cumbria coast is home to spectacular, often uncrowded, beaches. From Bardsea and Roanhead on Morecambe Bay to Haverigg and Silecroft on the west coast; the dramatic setting of St Bees to the peaceful shores of Allonby, there’s lots of space to explore.
Come evening, soak up stunning sunsets and sea views over to the Isle of Man or the coastline of Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland.
Cycling is a great way to experience the Cumbria Coastal Route, with a range of trails for different abilities.
The Solway Coaster is a flat, family-friendly 14.1km route between Allonby and Silloth, while the wider Hadrian’s Wall Cycleway 72 runs from Carlisle to Ravenglass. In the south, the Bay Cycle Way travels along Morecambe Bay, combining coastal scenery with quiet roads.
The Cumbria Coast is home to some fantastic golf courses offering the chance to enjoy a round with sea views to one side, and Lake District mountains to the other. Maryport Golf Club and Silloth Golf Club are two excellent options: both enjoy stunning locations and fantastic facilities.
For something different, enjoy a memorable horse riding experience along the beach with Cumbrian Heavy Horses near Millom. There are also watersports experiences on the coast and inland at nearby Wastwater.
