Accessibility

The Cumbria Coastal Route is easy to explore, with something to suit a wide range of abilities. On this page, you will find lots of information to help you plan your trip - from activity providers with inclusive facilities to walks for those with limited mobility. There’s also information on parking, Changing Places facilities, tramper hire, accessible attractions and more.

There’s a fantastic range of accessible activities along the Cumbria Coastal Route, including attractions offering quieter hours and wheelchair access; and tramper hire with companies like Outdoor Mobility. ‘Watchtree Wheelers’ at Watchtree Nature Reserve offers a range of bikes including companion cycles and a wheelchair carrying tricycle. The Ways Around The Bay initiative highlights accessible trails in Morecambe Bay. Seaside promenades like Arnside, Grange over Sands, Maryport and Silloth are all suited to wheelchair access.

For low gradient walking routes, take a look at the following options:

  • Ways Around The Bay: a collection of accessible routes around Morecambe Bay
  • Miles Without Stiles: 50 walking trails for those with limited mobility, including some along the Cumbria coast.

If you’re looking for somewhere to stay, there are lots of accommodation options who cater for those with additional needs. Some have specially adapted rooms, making it easier to plan with confidence.
