Morecambe Bay

Cumbria Coastal Route - Morecambe Bay mapBeginning just off Junction 36 of the M6, this stretch of the Cumbria Coastal Route introduces you to the ever shifting landscapes of Morecambe Bay - a striking area of pretty towns and villages, fantastic food and drink, and an abundance of things to see and do.

This section of the route leads you through scenic landscapes via some fantastic places to stop and explore. Take time to enjoy the peaceful charm of Arnside, a designated National Landscape with sweeping views across the estuary, and stop to explore the promenade and independent shops of nearby Grange-over-Sands. Inland, the village of Cartmel is known for its foodie scene: it’s home to two Michelin starred restaurants and the famous Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding.

Along the way, there’s lots to discover. See the world’s oldest Topiary gardens at Levens Hall, take a journey on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway, explore Holker Hall & Gardens, or learn about motoring history at the Lakeland Motor Museum.

The route finishes in Ulverston: a vibrant market town known for its festivals, independent shops and as the birthplace of Stan Laurel.
