A Premium Hotel & Wedding Venue based in Barrow in Furness in Cumbria.

At the bottom of the South lakes lies Abbey House Hotel & Gardens which is just a short drive from the Heart of the English Lake District, only 20 minutes from Windermere. Our luxury Cumbria hotel and wedding venue is an ideal base for your special day or the perfect place for you to explore the surrounding area and even Morecambe Bay.  

Abbey House hotel was designed in 1910 and built in 1914 by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Set in 14 acres of private woodland and gardens on the outskirts of Barrow In Furness Cumbria, the hotel takes its name from the neighbouring ruins of one of the greatest Cistercian foundations in the country, Furness Abbey. The Furness Abbey is accessible from the grounds.

The hotel has 59 beautifully decorated rooms, all designed for your comfort. Whether you require a home away from home for a business stay or a luxurious break with family or loved ones, we will have a room perfect for your needs.

Road Directions

Whether travelling from the North or the South, exit the M6 motorway at junction 36 and take the A590, following signs for Barrow. Remain on the A590 for approximately 30 miles (until you pass Dalton in Furness). At the next roundabout, take the first exit (Breast Mill Beck Road), following signs for “Furness Abbey”.
