The Cumbria Coastal Route offers a vibrant calendar of events throughout the year. From food festivals and live music to quirky fairs and family fun, there’s always something happening.
In the south, Ulverston has a reputation as a festival town, hosting a wide range of events across the year with everything from Christmas markets to a lantern festival. Plus, keep an eye out for events at country houses like Holker Hall and Levens Hall.
Further along the route, Muncaster Castle hosts a regular programme of events including the popular Sausage Festival and a packed programme of seasonal celebrations, from summer activities to Halloween events.
For live music and a family-friendly atmosphere, Solfest near Silloth brings together an eclectic mix of music, arts and entertainment. Nearby, events like Cockermouth Live add to the region’s vibrant festival programme, with music, poetry and more to enjoy.
Food lovers can enjoy the Taste Cumbria festivals, held in locations including Maryport, Wigton, Cockermouth and Carlisle. These popular events celebrate the best of local produce, with street food, demonstrations and the chance to meet local makers.
For something a little different, don’t miss the Egremont Crab Fair and World Gurning Championships. Established in 1267, it’s one of the oldest fairs in the world, combining traditional sports, local food and crafts, and the famous gurning competition to see who can pull the most grotesque face!
