Wasdale Wild Swimming Adventure – Experience wild swimming in Wasdale which offers adventurous swims in pure, clear water. Known as the birthplace of British rock climbing and home to Wastwater, the most dramatic lake in England. Wastwater is surrounded by the slate screes of Illgill Head and the mountains of Wasdale and provides the most spectacular swim in the Lakes.

Swim the full 5km length of Wastwater with experienced guides, plus additional tarn swims. Suitable for confident open water swimmers with good walking fitness. Includes accommodation, all meals, swim guides, and local heritage exploration. Perfect for adventure swimmers seeking a unique Lake District experience.

Welcome to Swim the Lakes, based in Ambleside at the heart of the Lake District since 2005.
We're passionate about swimming in this spectacular landscape and love sharing it with others. Join our friendly, experienced team and discover some of the most beautiful wild swimming locations the Lake District has to offer.
We offer a wide range of outdoor swimming experiences for all abilities. Whether you're dipping your toe in with a taster session, swimming out to an island, or enjoying a gentle river float on a guided wild swim, there's something for everyone. You can also join us for a full day of swimming and walking on our Adventure Swim Days, or extend your visit with one of our Adventure Swimming Mini-Breaks. For those new to the sport, we run popular Introduction to Open Water Swimming courses, as well as outdoor swim safety courses.
Our outdoor swimming shop in Ambleside is stocked with essential equipment and swimwear, and we offer a wetsuit fitting service to help you find the perfect fit.
