About

1692 Wasdale is a delightful family-run boutique Bed & Breakfast with superb views east across Wasdale to the Scafells  and west over the Irish Sea.  The Western Lake District is the wild & rugged part of the National Park - now a World Heritage site - here you will find the great outdoors without the crowds. With mountains, lakes and a fantastic coastline there is something special about each season.

The barns adjacent to our home have been completely renovated to create 6 luxurious en-suite bedrooms plus a dining room, lounge with piano & contemporary stove, boot room and drying facilities.  Inside you will find heated flagstone and timber floors, contemporary decor and some little extras to make you feel at home.

Couples, individuals, small groups on business or pleasure, walkers, climbers, wet boots, muddy bicycles, motorbikes and electric vehicles are all welcome at 1692 Wasdale. Dogs are welcome in 3 of our bedrooms.

A great breakfast is a central part of your stay with us.  We also offer evening meals. We are not a restaurant and only cook for our own guests so these must be arranged in advance of your stay.  Our well-stocked honesty bar is available for all our guests to enjoy as is our hot tub with mountain views.

Exclusive-use breaks are a speciality, with catering to suit your group.

In the Wasdale Valley there’s easy access to Scafell Pike the highest mountain in England plus so many more here and in the adjacent valleys of Eskdale and Ennerdale.

There are also lovely lower level walks and Wastwater, England’s deepest lake, nestles in our valley.

Cyclists, fell runners, kite surfers, divers, Paddle boarders, walkers and climbers of all standards will find plenty to do here in the Western Lake District.

Muncaster Castle and the Ravenglass & Eskdale narrow gauge steam railway are both just 15 minutes away.

Please do not rely solely on SatNav systems as they will often bring you over the passes. Lakeland passes are not suitable for all drivers, may be closed in winter and are not advised at night!

1692 Wasdale is on the west coast of Cumbria about 90 minutes from the motorway in either direction .

Our local pubs and restaurants will take last food orders around 8:30pm so if you are travelling late, it may be worth stopping to eat on your journey.   Here are our directions for the easiest journey:

From the North:   1) Leave M6 at J44. Follow A689 then the  A595 to Cockermouth or  2)  Leave M6 at J40 and take A66 west to Cockermouth.

From Cockermouth, take A595 south (pass Whitehaven & Egremont).  2.5  miles after Calder Bridge you will see the Red Admiral pub on the left. Shortly after, take the left hand slip road into Gosforth. Turn left at the mini roundabout and drive through the village.  Follow signs to Wasdale Head and Nether Wasdale. When you leave the village you will turn right over a bridge and then travel up a steep hill. We are the SECOND property on the right at the top of the hill. Look out for our sign.

From the South:  Leave M6 at J36. take the A590 toward Kendal. After 3 miles, take the A590 toward Barrow in Furness.  At Greenodd turn right at the new roundabout onto the A5092. This becomes the A595 at Grizebeck.  Continue on the A595 following signs to Whitehaven. You will pass an ESSO  garage at Holmrook and 2.5 miles later you come to a cross roads with Seascale to the left and Gosforth to the right.  Turn right to Gosforth and then turn right at the mini roundabout. Drive through the village following signs to Wasdale Head and Nether Wasdale. When you leave the village you will turn right over a bridge and then travel up a steep hill.  We are the SECOND property on the right at the top of the hill. Look out for our sign.
