About

Northern Trains plays a vital role in the north of England by connecting tens of thousands of people to work, leisure, education and more every day.

You can leave the car at home and travel all around Cumbria by rail. From the high-speed London to Scotland West Coast Main line, you can hop off at Oxenholme onto a Northern service that takes you to the heart of the lakes at Windermere.

Cumbria is renowned for stunning scenery and a great way to experience the famous views is from a train window. Travel over Ais Gill summit, 356 meters above sea level and the awe-inspiring Ribblehead Viaduct on the world-famous Settle-Carlisle railway.

Northern operates a frequent service on the line. The equally beautiful Cumbrian Coast route promises breathtaking sea views. The journey takes in the historic market town of Ulverston, the Edwardian seaside resort of Grange of Sands and the harbor at Whitehaven. Northern operate regular trains from Lancaster to Carlisle via Barrow.
