Designed by skateboard, stunt cyclists and scooter fans, Maryport Skate Park was officially opened in January 2025 and is already attracting a legion of fans.
It was created using a wish list from the county’s skating and BMX-riding communities and includes ramps, ledges, boxes and rails. The design is unique to Maryport and laid out so that people can skate together, regardless of their level of expertise.
The Skate Park is located on Maryport’s historic promenade and a new seafront café is also due to open there in time for Summer 2025. It’s a lovely spot, with landscaped picnic areas and green spaces perfect for a kickaround, and the chance to watch beautiful Solway sunsets.
Maryport Skate Park was built by Cumberland Council as part of £12 million of regeneration work in the town. Other new and improved attractions include Maryport Activity Centre with its Clip ‘n Climb arena, alongside one of the biggest and best adventure soft play areas in Cumbria. Nearby on the harbourside, there’s the Shiver Me Timbers play area – the public chose its pirate theme. Meanwhile, Shipping Brow Gallery is showcasing loads of local art, the new Maritime Museum is due to open this year in historic Christ Church, and the former Carlton cinema is being transformed into an event venue and creative hub.
