We are one of the longest established specialist outdoor activity providers in the Lake District. We think we have something that will suit nearly everyone and if we don’t we’ll link you to someone who has. We have a track record for providing personal attention and a quality service, whether you want a weekend of fun or a more serious course for work, we have the expertise to deliver what you are looking for.
Abseiling
A popular and thrilling activity - walking off a cliff backwards and living to tell the tale…! We have the skill to give you the best experience with sites ranging from small easy angled slabs for youngsters to steeper longer drops for the daring. Session approx 2hrs.
Aquasailing
Descend some spectacular waterfalls in style. Abseiling through clear flowing cascades is not for the timid. Half day sessions are suitable for teenagers and adults. Wetsuits provided!
Mega Abseiling
For the thrill seeker we can offer a memorable Lakeland experience abseiling in a spectacular slate quarry. After an initial training abseil (60ft) the adventure continues with a 120ft descent down the main face of the quarry, the last part of which is free hanging (your feet will not touch the rock). Minimum age 16. Session approx 3hrs.
Canoeing
Tandem open canoes are a great way to get out and about on the water and are popular with anyone wanting a canoeing rather than swimming experience! For longer trips, greater stability and speed we can catamaran the boats, and even add a sail. We use mainly Windermere lake but also have a mobile fleet that can go anywhere.
Canoeing with Wild Cooking Afternoon Tea
Paddle on the lake exploring the bays and islands and find a nice place to stop for tea! Learn the basics of how to light a fire and some simple outdoor cooking techniques and create your own afternoon tea and snacks. Tea and pancakes? Popcorn? Dough twists? See what you can create and devour before packing up and paddling back to base. Normal session 3 hours, suitable for adults and fire-aware children (or over 9's).
Wild Canoeing
Stunning scenery, cruising along the shores of Lake Windermere in open canoes. This journey can be made as strenuous or mellow as you like - depends how far you want to travel. Our instructors are on hand to assure you are looked after. We launch from a sheltered bay and paddle along the lake stopping off for a 'bushcraft' tea on the lake shore or calling at one of the local tearooms!
Canoeing with Bushcraft
Learn the basics of how to light a fire and some simple cooking techniques then paddle off across the lake and create your own 'wilderness' experience - are you skilled enough to produce a hot drink on an open fire and serve it with your own freshly made pancakes and jam? Normal session 3-4 hours, suitable for adults and fire-aware children (or over 9's).
Canyoning
"Not for the faint hearted. Descend spectacular gorges in the most adventurous fashion. Once committed you jump or abseil down a series of waterfalls into deep plunge pools. We do full and half day trips but is best done as part of whole day with an abseiling session first so you are familiar with the equipment and more waterfalls abseils can be included
Ghyll Scrambling
A great way to experience the Lakeland scenery scrambling up a spectacular mountain beck: traverse deep pools, climb small waterfalls, swim and jump in when you feel like it - it is a wet activity! Water levels obviously affect this activity and the fun is adjusted accordingly. We offer a dryer and a wetter option. Session approx 2hrs.
Gorge Scrambling
Crystal clear water, idyllic setting, an amazing team experience. Work together to find the driest (or wettest!) way up the sparkling cascades and clear pools of a mountain river set in the majesty of a Lakeland valley. We climb the waterfalls and traverse the pools - plunging into them is an optional extra rather than a necessity! We offer a dryer and a wetter option.
Kayaking
Single or double sit-on-top kayaks which are more comfortable and stable! Great for youth groups, families, and adults who like a bit of fun. Trips along the lakeshore, games, paddle skills, safety, rescue and star tests.
Lakeland Mountain Day
Whatever the level of challenge we will ensure you have a great day - whether it's a first time introduction or Striding Edge on Helvellyn. Always popular are Coniston Old Man and Langdale Pikes, as are any of our short introductory half day trips up smaller lakeland tops - all of which will still give a great panoramic insight into the area.
Lakeland Slate Quarry Experience
Suitable for families and those who would like an adventurous walk through some short relatively dry passages in the spectacular setting of Cathedral Quarry. For the more adventurous this can be combined with an abseil session.
Mobile Tower
We have a mobile climbing tower which can be taken to hotels, schools and events to save you time and hassle. It is a popular activity for outdoor events, team building and school courses. It is 7m high, with 40 square metres of climbing area and 8 graded routes over its 3 faces.
Mountain Days
Let the experts take you to interesting places by interesting routes. For beginners who want a flavour of the mountains or for experienced walkers who want to tackle something a bit more adventurous such as Jacks Rake. For anyone who wants to get off the beaten track and see the best of the Lake district in the company of a knowledgeable expert. You can also develop your navigation skills and get some advice on what equipment is worthwhile. For further details see www.meremountains.co.uk
Mountain Ghyll Scrambling
For those who would prefer a slightly drier but longer option we recommend a scramble up a mountain ghyll; while it still may involve wet feet - it is not the total immersion experience of gorge walking or canyoning! Mountain standard footwear/jackets will be needed for walking down the path afterwards. Sessions can be 3 hrs to a full day outing.
Mountain Leader Training
The Mountain Leader Award is aimed for people looking to lead groups of people hill walking within the UK, in summer conditions. It gives you formal training and a recognised NGB qualification to work with.
You will learn about navigation, group management, emergency procedures, security on steep ground and access and conservation. To go on an ML course you need to be over 18 years, be interested in leading groups of people in the hills and registered with the MLTE. For further information please look on the MLTE website www.mlte.org. For the assessment you need to have completed the training course, have a current First Aid and logged a minimum of 40 quality mountain days, look on the MLTE website for the definition.
Mountain Scrambles
This has got to be the best way to get off the beaten track and defiantly the most interesting way to ascend a mountain. Choose either an introduction to scrambling and pick up some great tips to help you gain the confidence to become independent in the mountains, or choose a guided trip up a classic scramble in the safe hands of an experienced Mountain Instructor. (Not suitable for young children).
Orienteering
How competitive are you? Great fun for groups or families. Learn the tricks then navigate round the woodland course (look out for deer and other wildlife if you're quiet!). Various levels of challenge to suit all abilities plus a highly competitive score event to really get the adrenalin pumping.
Raft Building & Races
This is a very popular activity with those who enjoy some competitive light hearted fun. Build your own barrel and log craft, then test its sea-worthiness, will it hold your crew or dunk them? A short voyage along the lakeshore to develop your crew and then it's a head-to-head race to the finish line, best team wins of course! Popular with all ages it needs at least 4 to paddle a raft, (more if children) although a few more is best to have a real competition!
Rock Climbing
We offer a number of options on South Lakeland's scenic rocky outcrops or, for the more experienced, longer multi-pitch mountain routes in the heart of the Lake District, for the more experienced.
On wet, cold days we can use Lakeland's indoor climbing walls.
Rock Scrambling
Climbing without a rope - sounds daft? It's not a bad as it sounds - scrambling up boulders and rocky slabs of easy grade rock can be great fun. Suitable for those who feel confident on steep slopes, scrambling challenges can generally be climbed or walked round (and we do carry a rope!). A great way to ascend one of the small craggy knolls on the edges of the Lakeland valleys. Session approx 3hrs.
Tea On Top Of The World
OK so it's not Everest - but Gummers How gives stunning 360 degree views. For something a little different - we offer 'afternoon tea' on the summit (or morning coffee) accompanied by sticky buns.
The whole trip can be done in less than 2 hrs so even in a busy schedule you can stand on top of a Lake District Fell, with panoramic views of the Southern Lake district. From the car park we'll guide you up the mountain with a choice of rocky scramble or easy walk. For most people it's a comfortable half hour to the summit from where you can take a further stroll along the tops enjoying the views.
Team & Initiative Challenges
Build your team spirit with our varying challenges. These can be made as easy or as hard as seen fit! Great fun and suitable for groups of mixed age and ability.
Activities can take place in the grounds of your hotel or nearby.
Whitewater Canoeing
In the wetter months there are opportunities for easy white water river descents. Ideal for those who have tried canoeing before, or for those who like a challenge. Grade 1 & 2 rivers are used with generally straight forward rapids and shoots. The choice of venue will depend on the river levels. For groups with inexperienced members we use open canoes, more experienced groups sometimes opt for kayaks.
Winter Walks
There is very little that is as special as looking across fells covered in snow, it is a scene as old as time, yet pristine and untouched. Need to learn how to make best use of your ice axe and crampons? Want to get up high when the world is white? Call us to find out what fells are in condition and what will suit you.
