Lake District Foundation

We are the independent charity for the Lake District. We fund, collaborate and inspire positive action in the Lake District. World Heritage landscapes don’t look after themselves and the work of caring for lakes, rivers, wildlife, footpaths and heritage relies on long-term support.

We raise funds, invest in people and places and turn generosity into action across Cumbria.

What we do

We fund practical projects that make a real difference to climate, nature, water, heritage and access. Working with trusted partners, we direct funding where it has the greatest impact on the ground.

This includes repairing heavily used footpaths, planting and protecting native trees, restoring landscapes and habitats, improving water quality and supporting community led climate action.

Why it matters

The Lake District is free to enjoy but not free to care for. Climate change and environmental decline are real challenges, and they need sustained action.
