2026 Holiday Guide Photo Competition

Have you taken a stunning photo of Cumbria lately - or, are you planning to visit with your camera?

Your picture could feature on the cover of The Lake District, Cumbria Holiday Guide 2026 and be seen by thousands as they decide where in our beautiful county to come to on holiday! Last year, we featured a stunning snap by Jonny Gios Photography (who runs photography tours of the Lake District if you'd like to brush up on your skills!). This year, we want your entries.

If you take photos of our beautiful landscapes we would love to see them and it could be your image that becomes our cover star. It doesn't matter if it was a lucky quick snap or a carefully crafted materpiece - if it's good, we want to see it!

To be in with a chance of seeing your photo on the front cover of the 2026 Holiday Guide, simply give us some details of your prize photo and tell us the story of why it’s so special to you, then upload your photo and it will be entered into the competition.

From your entries, one outstanding photo will go on to become the winner. Please read through the T&Cs below as there is some important information about the picture formats that we can accept. The key thing to note is that it needs to be hi-res and portrait orientation. And of course, it needs to be a photo of Cumbria!

The Lake District, Cumbria Holiday Guide Photo Competition T&C’s

• The winner of this competition will have their image featured as the front cover for the annual Lake District, Cumbria Holiday Guide 2026.
• The photograph entered must be of Cumbria.
• The theme of the picture is open to interpretation, but we are looking for beautiful photographs that show off the spirit and beauty of Cumbria.
• Cumbria Tourism/visitlakedistrict.com is aware that digital photography does allow for enhancements. The following enhancements are permitted:
  • Removing spots, blemishes, or scratches.
  • Editing the colour for the sake of composition.
  • Cropping the image.
  • We cannot accept composite images (entries that have multiple photographs stitched together). The aim is to stay true to the natural beauty of Cumbria so please avoid heavy editing where possible.
• Entrants from all over the world are welcome, but the photo must be taken within Cumbria.
• Entrants must not be professional photographers. For the purposes of this competition, a professional photographer will be considered someone for whom 50% or more of their annual income comes from the sale of their photography.
• Please ensure when entering your image that you give a correct email address and contact name, in case we need to get in touch.
• To be suitable for print, the winning photograph must be able to be supplied in the following format:
  • Portrait Orientation
  • JPEG, PDF or TIFF
  • High resolution
  • 300 DPI
• Closing date for competition entries is midnight on Monday 6th October 2025.
• Photographs will be judged on the following criteria:
  • Composition
  • Originality
  • Public Appeal
  • Suitability to be featured as the front cover of the Cumbria Tourism/visitlakedistrict.com 2026 Holiday Guide
• All entries received up until the stated closing date will be considered by the visitlakedistrict.com judging team who are working to produce the 2026 holiday guide. A shortlist and then final winner will be selected by the team of judges.
• By entering the competition all entrants grant Cumbria Tourism/visitlakedistrict.com and their members the right to publish and exhibit their photographs on their websites, marketing materials and any other documentation they see fit. While every effort will be made to credit photographers, including printed publications, we cannot guarantee that every use of the image will include the photographers’ name.
• Cumbria Tourism/visitlakedistrict.com reserves the right to cancel this competition or amend any terms and conditions at any time without warning.
• If the winner is unable to be contacted after reasonable attempts, the runner-up’s image will be used.
