There’s a real choice of places to park up, ranging from larger holiday parks with fantastic facilities to smaller, more basic sites. We know one of the joys of touring is the flexibility it offers, and its always worth giving sites a call last minute, as they will generally fit you in if they have the space. A number of locations even offer overnight stays in car parks and certified site locations.
We always recommend that visitors stay in official sites, many of which are operated by local farmers and families, and the extra income helps them to keep looking after the Lakes. Check out our page of touring sites to find your perfect pitch.
It’s worth being aware that many of our roads are narrow and windy, and not the best for larger vehicles take a look at our downloadable map, to help you plan your route.
A lot of our drainage is also not mains connected, so please be careful when disposing of waste water, so it doesn’t end up in our rivers and lakes. Morecambe Bay Partnership have a really great guide to help.
Most importantly of all, think like a local, We are asking visitors to respect and support our local communities and take the opportunity to explore them, using local shops, trying out some of the delicious local produce expertly made by artisan businesses, the amazing array of places to eat and by visiting the wealth of attractions on offer.
You may leave the Lake District, but once you’ve been, it’ll never leave you.
