Here in Cumbria, you will find a proud tradition of micro-breweries & distilleries where passionate teams are committed to nurturing their craft to produce excellent gins, whiskies, craft beers and ciders, often aided in production by rich natural resources. Given this strong reputation throughout the county, we are now excited to present to you Oktoberfest Cumbria 2025!
The first Oktoberfest was held on 12th October 1810 in Munich, Germany, to celebrate the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. The public were invited to join the festivities, which took place on fields outside Munich that were named Theresienwiese, or “Therese’s Meadow,” in honour of the bride. The event was so popular, it became an annual tradition.
Today, Oktoberfest is the world’s largest beer festival, attracting visitors from around the globe. It’s also a celebration of Bavarian culture, with traditional attire like dirndl and lederhosen, and local food such as roast chicken, bratwurst, and pretzels, plus sweet treats like gingerbread hearts. Entertainment ranges from funfair rides to traditional music and parades.
The tradition of Oktoberfest has spread throughout the world and now to Cumbria! With beautiful autumnal landscapes, award-winning venues and delicious local beer, it’s the perfect place to experience this famous festival. Join us for some excellent food & drink and a vibrant calendar of events – there is plenty on offer to keep you entertained in Cumbria this October.
The autumn months are a great time to get away and spend some quality time with family and friends, so, while the Munich Oktoberfest concludes in early October, we will be keeping the party going all month long also taking in half term so there will be events for all the family (it’s not all about the beer!)
Looking to stay for longer? There are plenty of brilliant accommodation options around the county allowing you to make the most of everything on offer.
Oktoberfest Cumbria 2025 is a collaboration with many great local businesses and venues. See the full programme below and make sure to check back here for the updated line up.
