You are here: Home > Plan Your Visit > Travel > Getting Around Cumbria
Getting around Cumbria is a cinch – whether you opt for the bus, the train (including our fabulous collection of steam trains) or a traditional steamboat across the lakes. You can use your own wheels, of course, but that means you’ll have to keep at least one eye on the road - which doesn’t give you as much scope to soak up the glorious scenery.
For information on car parking around the county of Cumbria, and where you can charge your electric car, please visit our car parking and car charging page.
A short section of the A592 at High Kingate is currently closed, but Glenridding and Patterdale remain fully accessible from the north, while businesses in Troutbeck are open and accessible from the south. If you’re approaching Ullswater from the south or Troutbeck from the north, official diversion routes are signposted and you can plan ahead with Westmorland & Furness Council updates here
