About

Specialising in Friesian horses, Black Horses Ltd have spent nearly 2 decades building a family of 15 Friesians (and a wanna-be Friesian, their miniature shetland!) who all take great delight in being entertained by our visitors.   We are located at Greenbank Farm in the lovely little village of Cartmel and everything we do is about the horses.   Internationally renowned Tracey Alexander and her team give Friesians a home for life and they warmly welcome you to book a 'Meet the Horses Tour' where you will be taken around the farm to meet all the black beauties - you may even see some being worked or groomed.   You’ll be encouraged to stroke their velvety noses and indulge in cuddles and scratches with them as they are incredibly friendly and people-oriented horses.

Or why not book a session in 'The Friesian Friendship Barn' where you can step into a world of tranquility as your equine companion relaxes under the warm glow of the infrared solarium, relishing our nourishing homegrown haylage. You can join them for affectionate Friesian cuddles or a grooming session or recline on a plush sofa behind our beautifully handcrafted partition, basking in the soft, soothing lighting while you disconnect from the outside world and enjoy the wonderful energy of your chosen companion.

If you are looking to learn more about the Friesian breed then why not book a 'Custom Experience'  where former president and director of the Friesian Horse Association of GB & Ireland (FHAGBI), Tracey can share her knowledge on the breed and the strict KFPS studbook the horses belong to. This experience is ideally suited to those who have fallen in love with the Friesian horse, want to know more about them and have their time here tailored to exactly what they would like to learn, see and do.  Young or not so young in years, we can tailor an experience that is guaranteed to bring on the 'Friesian Smile' and leave you with memories that will last a lifetime.

Guide Prices

1 hour 'Meet the Horses Tour' for 2 - £120 (Additional £25 per person)

'Friesian Friendship Barn' for up to 3 people - £140 (1.5 hours on first visit)

Visit our website to see everything that we offer and hope to see you soon.
