About

Times: 10:30 am and 1.00 pm

Number of Trampers Available: 2

Distance: Grounds of Castle: no set distance
                 Holeslack Wood Route (Blue): 2km
                 St John Church Extension (Purple):1.7km
Gradient:  Paved and/or gravelled paths, and lawned/grassy areas during the summer months.

You need to be an Outdoor Mobility member to book a Tramper.

Holeslack has one section of steep path and the St John Church extension has a long section of steep road (suitable only for confident Tramper users)

Sizergh is located a short distance from the M6 motorway, approximately 5 miles south of Kendal. The castle is surrounded by formal gardens and estate grounds/parkland with footpaths and children’s adventure trail. The visitor centre provides good facilities: a shop, a café and accessible toilets. The castle also has outdoor picknick areas both within the formal gardens and by the car park.

There are three routes available at Sizergh Castle.

Firstly the Tramper can be used to explore the formal gardens and the gravelled terrace surrounding the castle and overlooking the Mirror Lake, access the castle courtyard (no access to the castle itself), and the kitchen garden.

Only assistance dogs are allowed in the formal gardens.

During summer months, and as conservation needs allow, the Tramper can also be taken along the main lawn and south garden, as well as through the orchard.

Secondly is the new accessible path which takes in Holeslack Woods (Blue on the map) and is a 2km loop through the estate on a wonderful and picturesque path.

Thirdly is an extension to the Holeslack Woods loop which adds 1.7km and a climb up to St John Church which gives beautiful and extensive views. This section (Purple on the map) has a steep climb and is is only recommended for confident Tramper users.

If you want to complete all the routes you will need to book both the morning and afternoon sessions.

National Trust admission charges apply (admission free to National Trust members).
