Steam from the lake shore of Windermere along the heritage track to Haverthwaite Station, where you can visit the station tea room, gift shop, woodland playground, picnic area and engine shed.
Since 1869, this unique train/boat connection has provided the most spectacular of gateways to the Lake District. Why not come and enjoy the historic experience today?
Journey in nostalgic 1950's carriages hauled by one of our fleet of passionately restored and maintained steam locomotives. Enjoy the 3.5 mile journey on this former Furness Railway branch line to the foot of Windermere, then onwards to Bowness or Ambleside on one of Windermere Lake Cruises elegant steamers.
At Haverthwaite, we have a well-stocked engine shed, where our own engineers work tirelessly and proudly alongside a team of dedicated volunteers to restore and maintain our rolling stock, tours can be arranged with prior notice.
Our licenced Platform Tea Room offers generous portions of home cooked food, for breakfast and lunch, along with homemade fruit scones freshly baked daily. The tea room is fully accessible for wheelchair users.
Step into our Gift Shop to find the perfect souvenir of your day or the ideal gift for someone…
A dynamic woodland play area for younger visitors along with track side picnic areas, completes our attractions and amenities.
