About

Why not take a break from your travels and relax in the warm, welcoming and nostalgic surroundings of our licensed ‘Station Tea Room’ just off the platform at Haverthwaite Station. Our home cooked menu includes our hearty Railwayman’s breakfast, freshly made soup, along with a selection of lighter bites and cakes.

Afternoon tea is also a firm favourite. Enjoy a selection of sandwiches, savoury treats, a medley of cakes and a homemade fruit scone with jam and clotted cream.(pre-booking required)

We are open 7 days a week, 9am – 5pm with last orders for food at 3.30pm.(Steam Season only)

We are happy to cater for your group or party bookings by prior arrangement please contact us for details 015395 31594

We are pleased to serve our very own “Fairburn Ale” locally brewed by Ulverston Brewing Company. As a bottled beer this is a great accompaniment to your meal.

We are a family run business who enjoy and take pride in sourcing excellent home grown produce supplied by local people. Butcher Peter Hutchinson of Greenodd supplies all of our meats – Peter makes our now celebrated Fairburn Ale Cumberland sausages. Doug Sanders supplies our free range eggs, milk and cream, and ice-cream comes from ‘English Lakes Ice-Cream’ in Kendal.

The tea room is fully accessible for wheelchair users.

About Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway

Since 1869, this unique train/boat connection has provided the most spectacular of gateways to the Lake District. Why not come and enjoy the historic experience today?

Journey in nostalgic 1950's carriages hauled by one of our fleet of passionately restored and maintained steam locomotives. Enjoy the 3.5 mile journey on this former Furness Railway branch line to the foot of Windermere, then onwards to Bowness or Ambleside on one of Windermere Lake Cruises elegant steamers.

At Haverthwaite, we have a well-stocked engine shed, where our own engineers work tirelessly and proudly alongside a team of dedicated volunteers to restore and maintain our rolling stock, tours can be arranged with prior notice.

A dynamic woodland play area for younger visitors along with track side picnic areas, completes our attractions and amenities.
