Jim and Monique look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful, elegant Victorian Guest House situated in the centre of the picturesque village of Ambleside. Set in the heart of the Lake District national park, World Heritage site.
The Melrose is a slate Victorian town house built circa 1880 and although it has now been newly refurbished in a modern and contemporary style, you can still identify many of its original features some of which have been fully restored which retains the character of the building.
The Guest House Is Four star rated and is accredited with a Visit England silver award for high quality accommodation and services, we also hold: Cyclists welcome, Walkers welcome and were awarded Hall of fame certificate of excellence 2019 by Trip Advisor.
The Melrose has eight homely, comfortable and modern bedrooms each decorated in a stylish and contemporary fashion to suit all tastes. Luxurious crisp Egyptian cotton linen on our comfy beds together with beautiful and comfortable soft furnishings. All our Superior, King and double rooms have en-suite bathrooms with luxury toiletries, powerful showers. All our rooms have smart flat screen TVs, digital alarm clocks, hair dryers, black out blinds as well as a well stocked hospitality tray.
The top floor rooms feature scenic Fell views of Loughrigg, Wansfell and the Fairfield Horseshoe. There is Free unlimited Wi-Fi available throughout the Guest House.
A home cooked full Cumbrian or vegetarian breakfast with locally sourced produce is provided including local jams and relishes. Lighter options are available for those who prefer. Special diets are catered for including vegan, vegetarian and gluten free.
We are just minutes' walk from the town centre with a wide and diverse range of restaurants, cafes, bars, cinemas, museums and shops and is the starting point for many popular walks and hikes. Lake Windermere is only 10 minutes walk from the Guest House with its steamer cruises and water leisure activities.
Free parking is available for guests a two-minute walk from the Guest House. Whilst we are also able to provide secure storage for bikes and hard standing for motor bikes. Windermere railway station is a 10-minute drive away.
Should you be unfortunate enough to experience one of our rare Lake District downpours during your stay then don't worry as we have Drying facilities available at the property.
Sorry but we do not cater for children or pets. No smoking, vaping, or takeaway food is allowed in the house.

From M6 jct 36 follow A591 into Ambleside. From south come down Wansfell Road and turn right at bottom into Rothay Road. Stay in the right-hand lane, turn right into Kelsick Road at the corner of the park. Take first left into King Street and then left into Church Street, we are on the right. From north turn right into Church Street immediately after the Royal Oak pub. We are 300yds down on the right.
Train to Windermere station, regular bus services to Ambleside. Alight at Kelsick Road stop which is literally just around the corner.
