The road network in Cumbria was more planned around horses and carts than modern vehicles, so please bear this in mind when choosing a route and parking. Our narrow roads have passing places to allow larger vehicles to pass; this is great for drivers but it’s key we avoid people parking in them.
We’ve created a map which shows which routes are more suitable for larger vehicles and highlights some particularly tricky roads.
You may leave the Lake District, but once you’ve been, it’ll never leave you.
