Lake District Summer Music is one of the UK’s flagship annual summer music festivals. Founded in 1985 they give local audiences and tourists to Cumbria a rare chance to experience exceptional concerts by international artists during July & August.
From string quartets to jazz and baroque specialists to world music, there’s an incredible selection to choose from each summer. They also encourage artists to try new things and premiere cross-artform work to present classical music in new and more accessible ways.
It’s not just brilliant music for adults but for younger audiences too as the festival hosts a series of fun family-friendly events for everyone to enjoy.
A core part of their DNA is to support exceptional young professionals alongside the international festival, giving them showcase concerts and masterclasses. Some of the most exciting talents of their generation have experienced the magic of LDSM’s summer festival including the likes of violinists Nicola Benedetti, Nikolai Znaider and Jennifer Pike, pianist Steven Osborne, cellist Guy Johnston and the Heath String Quartet to name a few.
