The Hive is an events venue housed in a beautiful, grade II listed, restored Wesleyan Chapel dating back to 1873. It is located in the former mining village, Nenthead, which sits high in the moors of the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which makes it an ideal base for exploring the local area. It is a place often visited by walkers, cyclists and driving enthusiasts who wish to admire the spectacular scenery and wildlife and find out more about the heritage of the area.
The Hive is run entirely by a team of dedicated volunteers whose aim is to promote the cultural heritage of the area and to create a community space in the village. The Hive is a stunning venue where local artists, crafters and musicians, as well as those from further afield, can showcase their talents through workshops, talks and live gigs. Additionally it is open for regular pop up cafes, monthly community lunches and special food events, where you can enjoy delicious home cooked meals or eat food purchased from street food trucks whilst enjoying our fully licensed bar. The cafe and ground floor performance space can also be used for private functions, including weddings, with the option of in-house catering. On the upper floor we have private rooms for hire for meetings or workshops. We have a quality audio-visual system, including projection and free Wi-fi. We even have the original chapel organ which can be used for recitals!
