Set in the heart of the Lake District, in Bowness-on-Windermere, The Victoria Wood Theatre presents an outstanding year-round programme of drama, classical music, folk, comedy and film.
The theatre is named in honour of the remarkable Victoria Wood – the much-loved writer, performer and comedian whose wit, warmth and creative spirit have long been part of the theatre's story. Her enduring connection to the venue makes its name a fitting tribute to her extraordinary legacy.
The venue (which shares a building with The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction) offers a rich and varied programme of drama, comedy, film, music and spoken word – the very art forms that have made it such a special place for more than three decades. From intimate productions and community events to acclaimed touring companies, the theatre is a home for stories that inspire, challenge and entertain.
Over the past 30 years, the theatre has welcomed an impressive array of celebrated actors, musicians, comedians and writers.
Alongside a distinguished board of trustees, founders Roger Glossop and Charlotte Scott credit one of Britain's greatest playwrights, Sir Alan Ayckbourn, as the inspiration behind the theatre's creation.
"We simply wouldn't be where we are today without Alan Ayckbourn's support. He gave us the confidence to open the theatre, and our success owes so much to his encouragement."
Sir Alan Ayckbourn has written more than 90 plays, and The Victoria Wood Theatre has been proud to present one of his works in every season since the theatre opened.
