About

Wild Sauna & Forest Plunge | Whinlatter Forest

Step into the wild beauty of the Lake District and experience the powerful combination of heat, cold water and nature with our Wild Sauna & Forest Plunge sessions in Whinlatter Forest.

Set high among the trees in England's only true mountain forest, Whinlatter offers sweeping views across the fells, deep woodland trails and some of the cleanest, freshest air in the country. This is a place where nature feels vast, alive and grounding all at once.

Our Wild Sauna & Forest Plunge experience invites you to slow down, breathe deeply and reconnect with the rhythms of the natural world.

Rooted in The Conscious Self ethos, this experience brings together the simple elements of fire, water, breath and forest to reset both body and mind.

⸻

Sauna in the Heart of the Mountain Forest

Hidden within the trees of Whinlatter Forest, our wood-fired sauna offers a peaceful and grounding space to unwind.

Surrounded by towering pines and open forest views, the gentle crackle of the fire and the scent of warm sauna wood create a deeply calming atmosphere.

This is not a spa environment. It's a raw and authentic forest sauna experience, where nature itself becomes part of the ritual.

⸻

❄️ Wild Forest Plunge

Just steps away from the sauna you'll have the opportunity for a refreshing cold plunge, embracing the powerful contrast between heat and cold.

Moving between sauna heat and cold water, known as contrast therapy, has been practiced for centuries and may help to:

• Boost circulation

• Reduce stress and inflammation

• Release tension in the body

• Improve mood and mental clarity

• Strengthen resilience and energy

Take your time, listen to your body and move at a pace that feels right for you.

⸻

A Natural Reset in the Lake District

With mountain air filling your lungs, forest silence all around you and the warmth of the sauna in your body, this experience becomes something deeper than simply warming up.

It becomes a chance to pause, reset and reconnect with nature.

Whether you come alone for quiet reflection or bring friends to share the experience, this is a powerful way to reconnect with the natural world.

⸻

Sauna Sessions

• Small group sessions for a relaxed and intimate atmosphere

• Time to move between sauna heat, cool forest air and cold plunge

• Set within the stunning landscape of Whinlatter Forest in the Lake District

⸻

Important

⚠️ Please note that the sauna is a short walk from the main car park.

Please allow 10–15 minutes after parking so you have time to use the toilets behind the Visitor Centre before heading to the sauna location.

By booking this experience you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to The Conscious Self Terms & Conditions, and acknowledge the nature-based environment and associated risks involved with sauna use and cold water activities.

What do I need to bring?
What to Bring

To make the most of your Whinlatter Forest Wild Sauna & Plunge, please bring:

Swimwear (best worn underneath your clothing for easier changing)

Towel – you must sit on a towel inside the sauna for hygiene

Water shoes as the water entry can be rocky

Dry robe or dressing gown to help with changing and staying warm

Warm layers for after your sauna and plunge

☕ A flask of tea or a warm drink (we love a good cuppa!)

Changing mat (optional but useful for changing outdoors)

Please also wear good footwear for the walk from the main car park, as the forest terrain can be uneven depending on conditions.
