Nestled at the gateway to the Jaws of Borrowdale, on the tip of Derwentwater, The Borrowdale Hotel has been a welcoming presence since 1866. Steeped in history and framed by dramatic crags, it’s the perfect base for lakeside strolls, lush temperate rainforest, riverside paths, and fell walks that begin just beyond the doorstep.
Part of the family-run Lake District Hotels group, the hotel combines timeless character with modern comfort. Each of the 40 bedrooms is designed with relaxation in mind, featuring comfortable beds, rich, calming fabrics, and contemporary amenities to ensure a deeply restorative stay. The hotel offers both dog-free and dog-friendly rooms with beds and bowls provided.
Downstairs, the elegant Restaurant features a glass-fronted wine cellar and offers relaxed dining with a touch of elegance. The Lounge Bar and Conservatory serve classic dishes and light bites throughout the day, with al fresco dining available when the weather is kind. Dogs are welcome in the garden, lounge, and conservatory for dining but not in the restaurant.
With free on-site parking, pretty gardens, and sweeping views down the valley, The Borrowdale is a favourite for walkers, explorers, and those who enjoy the comforts of good food and restful surroundings.
